I worked all the controls and cleaned the contacts, put all new JJ tubes in both units and left them on for a few hours for the new tubes to burn in. Channel 2 of the Pro MPA II is still pretty much inoperable, only the very faintest of signals with it cranked…tried to override Channel 2’s controls by using the stereo function…still no change. Same with the Pro Channel, barely discernible signal with it cranked. Channel 1 of the Pro MPA II works perfectly as always though. A limited edition 2-channel tube microphone preamplifier.

  • I have a distressor, a Neve compressor, a Heritage Audio Succesor and I’ll tell you what.
  • I had about given up on getting a mic pre as most are too expensive for my budget and the cheaper ones probably wouldn’t have satisfied me.
  • Considering that you don’t have access to preamps before purchasing to make this distinction, you want to take a close look at what you’re recording.
  • The Gasparilla parade is the third largest parade in the United States.
  • Both Microphone and Instrument input gains remain the same and are affected by this adjustment.
  • It never has the effortless sound of my API preamps, it always sounds like it is struggling for gain, it’s a difficult thing to describe with words.

Its front panel is made of black anodized aluminum and the unit sits in a 2u rack-mountable steel chassis. I’ve tried the ART Pro MPA II with stock tubes and with a tube swap . After a few years, I realized I didn’t really prefer it over my other outboard preamps or even the stock Steinberg interface preamps. It spent its last year here gathering dust, and then I sold it.

But it is a matter of what https://hedoniarestaurante.com/nosotros you might like, not what I like. I just think the praise for this piece of gear can get way over the top, so here is a tiny bit of rain on that parade. The variable mic input impedance is another subtle but nice sound option that I think “improves” some dynamic mics,, especially the Shure 57 and 58.

Great Tube Pres!

Came in handy on different voices with different mic selections. When comparing prices with cheaper low-voltage units, remember that many of them are mono, and that this unit has two channels. It is worth the few extra dollars –for sure. As I said above, replace the tubes –easy to do and makes a big difference, given a good vintage tube.

Versatile Tube Preamplifier Steps Up Your Sound!

After pressing this button please wait minute or so, it is time needed to warm up tubes . After testing starved and nonstarved operation I must say, High Plate button is always ON on my device heh. You will be surprised how dramatic the difference in sound is. For even wider variation of preamp tone and performance, operate the Pro MPA II at either a low or high plate voltage on the two integrated 12AX7 tubes. I’ve been using the Pro MPA II for about a month now.

Microphone Preamp Pro Audio Preamps & Channel Strips

I think the rule of thumb here is, ANYTHING will sound “better” than the cheap Chinese tubes that ship with the unit. It’s an easy mod and I’m sure they almost expect you to do it. If the gain and output level on that channel are cranked I get a tiny bit of signal but nothing more than that. I’ve swapped in and out known working tubes and swapped the tube from channel one, with no change in performance. These are great for processing the audio signal to taste before it reaches your DAW. A channel strip is a standalone unit that most commonly includes a preamp, EQ, and a compressor/limiter.

Both Microphone and Instrument input gains remain the same and are affected by this adjustment. Input gain can be adjusted from 0dB to 40dB of gain. Even when you pair this amp with a cheap mic, it’ll give that warmth and that extra percent that is hard to put a finger on. Really I have nothing to say but good things about it. Obviously you have to consider that this is a tube preamp, so it will color your sound substantially.
